Forget haunted houses and masked killers; the real horror show is a weekend getaway to the five boroughs. Shudder's latest offering, 'Find Your Friends,' attempts to capture the terror of a girls' trip gone wrong, but any local knows the script: it's not the friends, it's the city. Our protagonists, presumably escaping some mid-western malaise, arrive bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready for Instagrammable brunches and Broadway lights. Little do they know, their journey into psychological torment begins the moment their Lyft driver takes the scenic route through three different boroughs for a $75 fare. The film quickly devolves into a masterclass in urban dread as Helena Howard and Bella Thorne's characters face their true adversaries: a perpetually delayed L train, the existential crisis of finding an affordable cocktail, and the sheer audacity of a pigeon trying to steal a croissant from a stroller. Critics call it a 'frustratingly shallow endeavor,' and they're right – because what's more shallow than realizing your entire romanticized vision of NYC is just a flimsy facade for overpriced everything and chronic public transit anxiety? The 'thrills' are less about jump scares and more about the sheer panic of checking your bank account after two days. By the time the credit roll, the 'friends' are scattered, traumatized, and probably contemplating a move to, like, Delaware. Stream it or skip it? Honestly, just buy a MetroCard and ride the 7 train to Flushing during rush hour. You'll get more legitimate thrills, character development, and a deeper understanding of human suffering than any 'Shudder Original' could ever hope to deliver. And it only costs $2.90.
